Wednesday, August 22, 2007: Backpacks Full of Hope for Kids in Need
TORONTO, Aug. 22 /CNW/ - In Canada, one in every six children lives in
poverty.(*) To help enrich the lives of these children and prepare them for a
promising future, the KidsFest Canada In The Bag Back-To-School Supply Drive
in partnership with Grand & Toy, will donate 4,000 backpacks filled with vital
school supplies to students with the greatest needs across Canada.
"The number of students that begin each school year without the
appropriate school supplies is distressing, so partnering with companies like
Grand & Toy, who understand the importance of reaching out to these children,
is invaluable," said Brian Warren, CEO of KidsFest Canada. "By providing
disadvantaged children with the tools they need to start the year off on an
even playing field, we are celebrating with them that they have the potential
to create a positive and promising future for themselves."
The In The Bag backpacks will include fundamental supplies including
pencils, crayons, duotangs, binders, scissors and rulers among many others and
are valued at $125 each. The products were generously donated by Grand & Toy
partners including 3M Canada, Hilroy Ltd., Bic Inc. and Avery Dennison to name
a few.
"A company is only as strong as the community to which it belongs, and we
are proud to be affiliated with such a worthy community cause," says Pat
McMahon, Vice President, Sales, Grand & Toy. "For the 2007 In The Bag program,
Grand & Toy is providing warehousing and distribution services across Canada,
product coordination, and financial support. By 2008, KidsFest will become our
national and exclusive corporate charity."
There is no doubt that donations like these make a huge impact on a
child's educational success, as well as their self-confidence. As poverty
continues to be an obstacle in Canada, the passion and drive of organizations
like KidsFest Canada will help provide this country's most disadvantaged
children with a better, brighter future.
