Thursday, September 06, 2007: Allstate Foundation Making Sure Good HandsĀ® Are Rewarded
Boys & Girls Clubs of Philadelphia to Receive Funding with Each Completed Eagles Pass
PHILADELPHIA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--E-A-G-L-E-S, Eagles! Our chants and cheers will root on our team this season. At the same time, they will be encouraging our team to help hundreds of kids across the Philadelphia area. How so, you ask?
The Allstate Foundation announces the first-ever “Good Hands® Donation Program” to the Philadelphia community this up-coming football season. The Allstate Foundation, through the Eagles Radio Network, will give a $50 donation to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Philadelphia for every pass caught by an Eagles player’s “Good Hands®.” All proceeds from this program will help expand the Boys & Girls Clubs StreetSMART program in their Philadelphia clubs.
StreetSMART is an intensive, three-part program designed to help young people ages 11-13 effectively resist gangs and violence, resolve conflicts, and be positive peer helpers in their communities. According to the Boys & Girls Clubs, much of the street crime in Philadelphia is fueled by alcohol, drugs, and gang-related turf conflicts.
Jeffrey Waldron, chief professional officer of Boys & Girls Clubs of Philadelphia, says, “We have demonstrated that sites which implemented programs such as Street SMART have experienced 13% fewer juvenile crimes and 22% less drug activity than similar locations without a Boys & Girls Club. We are happy that the Allstate Foundation sees the value in our program. The only fight we want to hear about this football season is the Eagles Fight Song!”
“The Allstate Foundation is focused on tolerance, inclusion, diversity, and safe and vital communities and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Philadelphia fits perfectly with our community commitment,” said Stephanie Demchik-Pascual, Allstate Foundation Director for Pennsylvania. “This football season, every reception by our hometown team will get them one step closer to the bringing home the Championship Trophy, and at the same time will help Philadelphia youth learn how to avoid the pitfall of gangs and violence in our community.”
In addition to the “Good Hands® Donation Program,” the Allstate Foundation has granted $25,000 this year to expand StreetSMART in all Philadelphia Boys & Girls Club locations. At the end of the season, the Allstate Foundation will calculate the total number of receptions and present the organization with an additional check during a ceremony held at a local Boys and Girls Club location.
In Philadelphia, we want our team to fly to victory and while the Birds are at it they can also help take some of Philadelphia’s youth to new heights. Go Eagles!
